The Bossy King 16.12.16

This week we had our performances of 'The Bossy King.' We all remembered to smile at the audience and use a loud voice when singing and saying our words. Our friends and family came to watch and they were all really impressed. Thank you to all the parents for the wonderful costumes and lovely comments.

On Wednesday we had our Christmas Dinner. We all made hats and wore them into the hall. We had lunch with the rest of the school and all of the teachers. It was very yummy! We would like to say a BIG thank you to the the lunchtime staff... THANK YOU!

Today we are all wearing our Christmas jumpers to school to raise money for 'Save the Children.' There are lots of different designs, some have pictures, some flash and others make a noise.

This afternoon a pantomime is coming to school. It's called Dick Whittington. Some of us have been to a pantomime before so have told the other children that you have to shout things like 'He's behind you' and 'over there', we are very excited!

This weeks Learning Owl is Jessica. She has been chosen for persevering with a problem. Well done  Jessica, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Hootie!

Bossy King rehearsals 02.12.16

This week we have been very busy practising for our Christmas play. The singing is sounding fantastic and we are beginning to remember when to get on and off the stange. The children have all recieved their words this week so please practise these at home. Costumes are due in school next week.

In Maths we revisited 2D shapes. We practise describing the shapes by saying how many sides and points they have. We also played odd one out- we looked at three different shapes and decicded which one we thought was the odd one out. Miss Howells was very impressed with our good thinking.

We have also been also been working on recognising our phase 2 tricky words: the, I, to, into, we, me, go, no, he and she.

Today we helped to decoratate the Christmas tree. We each brought a decoration into school and hung it on the tree. The tree looks beautiful! We also made paper chains to decorate our classroom. We had to peel the sticky tape off the end, make the paper into a circle and stick the ends together.

This weeks Learning Owl is Ben. He has been chosen for his fantastic attitude towards his learning. Well done Ben, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Hootie!

Rosie's Walk 25.11.16

This week we read the story 'Rosie's walk.' We practised using positional language and went on a walk around the outdoor area. We went across the playground, around the puddle, over the tunnel. through the fence and under the tunnel. We also drew a picture of Rosie on the farm and had a go at writing a sentence. We used our phonics skills to help us sound talk the words.

In learning through play we have been busy painting the our decorations for the Christmas Bazaar. We have made russian dolls out of clay and decorated them using paint and glitter. They will be on sale for £1.

We also started rehearsals for our play 'The Bossy' king this week. We found out when we come on and off the stage and have been busy practising the songs. We are looking forward to finding out what our lines are going to be next week.

This weeks home learning challenge is to design a front cover for the 'Bossy King' programme. You can use felt tips, paints, glitter or collage. We look forward to seeing and sharing next week.

Mrs Mopple's Washing Line

This week in Lime Class we have been finding out how people washed their clothes in the olden days.

In  Literacy we read the story 'Mrs Mopple's Washing Line.' In the story Mrs Mopple's washing blows away and lands on different animals in the farmyard. We talked about the setting and characters and used our sounds to write the animals names. We are getting very good at sounding out words and finding the sounds we need on a sound mat.

On Thursday we all dressed up as victorians and took part in a victorian wash day workshop.  We found out the Victorians didn't have washing machines so they had to use a washboard, dolly and mangle to wash their clothes. We explored different artefacts and had a go at drawing them.

This week we also went down to our Woodlands Area. We collected leaves that had fallen off the trees and tried to find these on our leaf identification sheet . We found alder, maple, birch, holly and oak leaves! We also made mud soup, pies and cakes in the muddy kitchen.

Today we all wore spots and stripes to school to raise money for children in need. We raised over £200 pounds. Well done everybody!

This weeks Learning Owl is Ross. He has been chosen for his fantastic 'I can do it' attitude towards his writing. Well done Ross, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Hootie.

Nursery Rhyme Week 11.11.16

This week was Nursery Rhyme Week! We have enjoyed sharing our favourite rhymes, creating nursery rhyme books and making pictures and models of our favourite characters.

In Literacy we have been exploring rhyming words. We created a rhyming string and had go at writing some rhyming words. We also played around with the Rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty', creating some different versions.
What do you think?

Humpty Dumpty sat on a log,
Humpty Dumpty fell on a frog.

Humpty Dumpty bumped into a dog,
Humpty Dumpty got lost in the fog.

Humpty Dumpty had a black hat,
Humpty Dumpty sat on a cat.

In Maths we did some data handling. We asked our friends what their favourite nursery rhyme is and recorded their answers on a pictogram. We found out that 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' was Lime Classes favourite.

In UW we created fireworks pictures on Colour Magic. We explored the paint, pencil and spray tools and practised our mouse skills.

Next week is our Victorian wash day so for home learning we would like you to think about how you would wash your clothes if you didn't have a washing machine.

This weeks Learning Owl is Thomas! He has been chosen for his fantastic attitude towards his reading. Well done Thomas, we hope you have a lovely weekend with Hootie.

Diwali 04.11.16

This week in Lime Class we have been learning about Diwali.
We watched a video and talked about the different ways people celebrate. We also decorated rangoli patterns using watercolours and felt pens and made diva lamps out of clay.

All of the leaves are now falling off the trees. We have enjoyed sweeping them up for Mr Lowther and we also learnt a autumn time song.

In Maths we have been teaching Learning Owl how to do carefully counting. He was getting in a big muddle so we told him to put the sorting toys into a line and touch them with his wing.

Yesterday Mrs O asked us what we like about being Lime Class. She was very impressed with our speaking and all the different things we came up with.
Here are just few of them:
"Playing with my friends."
"Doing learning."

"Playing outside."
"Learning everything!"

Today it has been raining, so in learning through play we put on our wellies and jumped in the puddles. It was really fun!

This weeks Learning Owl is Connie. She has been chosen for her fantastic caring and sharing in Learning through play. Well done Connie, we hope you enjoy your weekend with Hootie!

We hope everybody has a lovely weekend and we looking forward to seeing all our friends again on Monday.
