Ladybirds 30.06.17

This week in Literacy we have been learning about the life cycle of a lady bird. We read a non-fiction book all about ladybirds and recorded some facts.
Did you know?

  • A baby ladybird is called a larva.
  • Baby ladybirds eat 50 aphids a day.
  • Some ladybirds give you a nip if you are not gentle.
  • You should hold a ladybird on a paintbrush so you don't hurt it.
In Maths we revisited addition and practised recording our working. We learnt that you can show your working pictorially (by drawing pictures) or as a number sentence. We also found out that if you reverse the number sentence the answer is still the same. For example;  3+5 =8 and 5+3=8

In gymnastics we used one to two feet jumps and two to two feet jumps to travel along, over and across different pieces of equipment. We also practised using our jumps for hopscotch, ladders and jumping from one side of the river to the other.

When we arrived at school on Monday one of our butterflies had hatched out of its cocoon and by Tuesday afternoon we had five beautiful butterflies. Today we released them onto the school meadow. They flew off all by themselves and enjoyed exploring the different plants and flowers.

On Wednesday an Air Ambulance came and landed on the school field, it was very exciting. We walked around the helicopter and had a look inside and Daisy presented them with a check for all the money we raised at Redbourn Fun Run.

This weeks Learning Owl is William, he has been chosen for his fantastic writing this week. Well done William, we hope you have a wonderful weekend with Hootie and hope to see him at the Strawberry Fayre.

Don't Forget tomorrow is the Strawberry Fayre!  We look forward to seeing lots of you there. Our minibeast wind chimes will be on sale for £1.50 so don't forget to pick your up.

Sports Day 23.06.17

On Monday we had a visit from the School Nurses. We found out all about how to look after our teeth. We talked about which foods are healthy and unhealthy and learn't how to keep our teeth clean and healthy. Lots of us knew that we have to brush our teeth for 2 minutes but lots of didn't realise we also have to brush our tongues.

On Wednesday we took part in a Game On workshop. We learn't how to play dodge ball, it was really fun! We have been practising how to play in the outdoor area in Learning Through Play. I wonder if you can teach your families how to play?

Today we have had a very exciting day. This morning we had Sports Day, we took part in lots of different activities and worked as a team to earn points for our colour groups. We done to everybody for trying their best and taking part and thank you to all the friend and family that came to support us.

This Afternoon it was Healthy Living afternoon so we made smoothies. We cut up strawberries and banana and put them into the blender with milk and yoghurt. Then we whizzed it up, it all blended together and made a nice pink colour. The smoothie was very yummy, lots of us gave it a thumbs up!

In Celebration Assembly we had a Fashion Show. 6 children from each class showed off their up cycled clothes from Green Day and walked down the Catwalk. There were lots of very interesting and imaginative creations, well done everybody!

For this weeks Home Learning we would like you to go out for a walk and see how many wild flowers you can find. Draw or paint a picture of what you find.

Green Day! 16.06.17

Today is Green Day so we have all come to school wearing something green. We haven't used the lights, computers or interactive whiteboard and all had a packed lunch for lunch. We bought old clothes in from home and have had lots of fun up-cycling them using beads, glitter and ribbons. We have also made hats, crowns and jewellery out of bin bags, dish clothes, tin foil, carrier bags and paper plates. We have made some fantastic creations and can't wait to show them off at the fashion show next week.

In Maths this week we have been practising ordering numbers to 20 and solving problems.
We played balloon pop on the interactive whiteboard and worked together to pop the balloons in order to 20. We also had a go at counting back from 20 and using our understanding to solve problems. If Lime Class start counting from 6 will they say number 2? What do you think? Why?

In Literacy we wrote a sentence about what we have enjoyed in Reception. We have done so much learning and enjoyed so many things it was really hard to choose!

In Computing we learnt how to use the laptops. We learnt how to click and drag using the mouse pad and worked with a partner to make a picture. Why not have another go at home, using the website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/makes/mister-maker-make-a-picture.

On Thursday it was National Clean Air Day so for home learning this week we would like you to think about what you can to help cut air pollution. Some of us have decided that we will walk or scoot to school everyday so we don't have to use our cars.

Bekonscot Model Village 09.06.17

Wow another week has flown by and what a lovely week we have had. On Wednesday we went on a school trip to Bekonscot Model village. We went on a yellow double decker bus and sat next to our friends. On the way there we sat on the bottom and on the way back we sat on the top. When we got to the model village there was lots to see! There was a zoo, a church, a school, a circus, a mine and much much more. There were also trains that went in all different directions and to lots of different stations. Some of the trains stopped at the stations and some went straight through. Thank you to all the adults that came with us,we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

Today was our second sharing assembly. We all remembered our words and spoke clearly and confidently in front of our friends and family. We also sang three new songs and remembered to project our voices so that everybody could hear. Miss Howells and Mrs Hyder made a special video with photographs from different times and celebrations across our Reception year. We loved it! We can't believe how much learning we have done in Lime Class and how much we have grown!

Thank you to all the children and parents who have been on the blog and left a comment. It's great to hear what you have enjoyed learning about and what you got up to over half term. Thank you!

This weeks Learning Owl is Evie. She has been chosen for persevering with her reading.Well done Evie, have a super weekend with Hootie!

For Home Learning this week we would like you to draw a picture of your home and tell us what it is like.
