Chicks 28.04.17

On Monday Miss Howells bought an egg into school. We talked about what might be inside the egg and why, lots of thought that it was a chick! Miss Howells' egg was just a normal egg with a white and a yolk but during the day we had a special delivery of eggs in an incubator.
Across the week the eggs have hatched and now we have 8 chicks, six girls and two boys. "The boy chicks are yellow and the girl chicks are brown." We have enjoyed looking at the chicks in learning through play and lots of us have also done some chick writing.

In Literacy we watched a video of a chick hatching. "The chick pecks the egg with its beak and pushes with its feet." We talked about how humans and chicks are similar and different and drew and labelled a picture of a chick.

In Maths have been learning about time. We looked at the big hand and little hand and practised making and reading o'clock times.  Today we saw what we could do in a minute, we touched our toes, jumped and sang the alphabet song.  Miss Howells' group jumped 109 times, Mrs Hyder's group jumped 95 times and Mr Sullivan's group jumper 145 times in a minute. We were very tired afterwards!

In PE we have been busy practising our May Dance. We have learnt all the steps and now we are putting it to the music.

This weeks Learning Owl is Theo. He has been chosen for his fantastic attitude towards his writing. Well done Theo, have a super weekend with Hootie!

For our home learning this week we need to look for clocks at home and in our local environment. We can take photographs or draw pictures.

Welcome Back 21.04.17

Welcome Back! It has been lovely to see all of our friends again and hear about all the exciting things everybody got up to over the holidays.

Well done to all the children in Lime class who took part in the Easter Challenge, we had lots of fantastic cress creations!

On Tuesday we did some writing about our Easter holidays, Miss Howell can't believe how much our writing has improved! We are now all using our phonics to sound out words and lots of us are remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

On Wednesday we drew our self portraits. "A self portrait is a picture of your face." We looked at ourselves in the mirror and thought about where are eyes, nose and mouth were. We also made sure to include things like our eye lashes, eye brows and pupils.

In Handwriting we revisited our one armed robot letters. We practised going up and down the robot arm and sitting our letters on the line. We also practised 'b' and 'd' as we often get them confused.

Today we all came to school wearing sport clothes to raise money for the Redbourn Fun Run, We started our day by doing some training, we ran around the playground, balanced along the edge, hopped along the hopscotch and jumped along the alphabet. Lime class thought it was awesome!
The Fun Run is taking place on Sunday 21st of May so make sure to sign up!

This weeks Learning Owl is Grace. She has been chosen for her fantastic attitude towards her learning this week. Well done Grace, we hope you have a super weekend with Hootie!

Our tadpoles are growing fast so this week's home learning is to find out and write about the life cycle of a frog.
