"Chick, Chick, Chicken" 05.05.17

We have had another exciting week with our chicks. They have grown SO much over the last week and have begun to get white feathers! Today we held the chicks, we made sure we were very quiet and very gentle. They felt soft and their feet were a bit tickly on our hands.

In Literacy this week we looked at a non-fiction book all about the life cycle of a hen. "Non-fiction books are information books, they tell us facts instead of a story." "Normally they have a photograph on the front not a drawing." We talked about what we found out a wrote a fact.
Did you know? ...
- Chicks hatch out of an egg.
- They have down.
- When they hatch they are wet and tired.
- When they see a fox they flap their wings to warn the other chicks and hens.

In Maths this week we revisited subtraction. We practised taking away using lots of different strategies - our fingers, a number line and manipulatives.

In Phonics we learn't the tricky word she. I wonder if any will spot this in their book when reading this weekend?

This weeks Learning Owl is Georgia, she has been chosen for trying really hard with her writing. Well done Georgia, enjoy your weekend with Hootie!

The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend so for home learning we would like you to go outside and play a game. I wonder which one you will choose? Miss Howells is going to play Poo Sticks!

  1. Sam loved holding the chicks and said their down was cold and fluffy but had dried out after being wet. He says he likes counting back in his head or using his fingers.
    Well done Georgia!
